A Double Dose of Delta Spirit in 2010

Fans across the country can expect to hear twice as much from San Diego‘s Delta Spirit in the New Year. The band, who spent the first half of 2009 opening for The Shins, will be headlining their own bills come 2010 as they gear up for the release of their second LP, History from Below, this May. But in what may be a further evidence of a coming decade of music biz frugality practicality, the boys behind all that jingly, feelgood Americana are bowing out of a lower 48 push and playing just small venues in major cities — twice apiece with a week to simmer in between sets.

At present, only audiences in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles are set to see what the Delta Spirit has in store for their follow-up to their universally praised debut, Ode to Sunshine — a record that propelled the band from obscurity to late night television and Top 10 lists nationwide after being snatched up by roots music pontificators Rounder Records in 2008.
